About This Program
As part of our Community Resource Program, the Indie Theater Fund has allocated $10,000 to provide NYC-based indie theater companies, venues, and productions with rapid at-home Covid-19 tests for in-person rehearsal processes and performances.
Working in partnership with HERE Arts Center’s bulk test kit order system, IndieSpace and the Fund will be purchasing testing kits for eligible applicants and placing the kit orders through HERE for our members. All approved applicants will pick up their test kits from HERE, located at 145 6th Avenue.
Who is Eligible?
This application is open to any NYC-based Indie theater companies, venues, or individual productions who are currently in, or will soon be involved in in-person rehearsal process or performances. Priority is being given to companies, venues, and productions that are having in-person rehearsals or performances that start or occur between now and May 31, 2022. Please read the specific instructions below to determine which group you should apply as.
For Companies: Please apply as a company if you are a theater company producing or rehearsing a production in an indie venue. These tests can be used for testing company and cast members who are participating in in-person rehearsals or performances for a specific production. Your production must be rehearsing or performing at an indie theater venue located in one of NYC’s five boroughs. Please apply on a production by production basis and NOT for your entire season!
For Venues: Venues may apply for testing kits for their in-person operation staff and teams ONLY. These tests can be used for staff working in person to operate the venue during in-person rentals and/or performances. These testing kits are not intended to be used for a specific company or production taking place at your venue. Please direct any companies or productions performing in your space to submit their own application for testing kits for their casts. If a company is also an owner or operator of a venue, they may submit an application for both venue staff testing kits and a separate application for testing kits for the cast of their production.
For Individual Productions: Please apply as an individual production if you are a solo production that is not associated with or sponsored by an indie theater company. These tests can be used to test cast members participating in in-person rehearsals of performances for an individual production. Your production must be rehearsing or performing at an indie theater venue located in one of NYC’s five boroughs.
Application Process
To apply for funds, please complete the application below before February 28 at 5pm. This application should take you 10 minutes or less to complete. Test Kit Pick Up Process:
Applications will be DUE BY February 28 at 5pm. Applications will be reviewed by IndieSpace and Indie Theater Fund staff members, and eligible applicants will be notified of their application status by Friday, March 4 at 5pm.
Your notification email will include your application status (approved or not approved), any questions about additional information needed, and the number of individual tests you’ve been approved for. Approved applicants will have an order placed under their name through HERE Arts Center and will be notified when the testing kits are available for pick up.
Please keep an eye out for any and all emails from IndieSpace, the Indie Theater Fund, and HERE Arts Center administration. Tests will be distributed as they are available, and as quickly as possible. We will try our best to get everyone their tests by the date needed, specified in their application; however, pickup dates can not be guaranteed due to outside factors such as shipping delays, weather, and testing availability. You will be notified if there is a delay in your order.
