Health and the Indie Theater Community

0

At the 2021 Big Give event, we invited attendees to share their wishes for 2022. They were wonderful and inspiring to read.

We will focus on a different wish each month and discuss how the indie theater community can help achieve this goal. Then, at the end of March, we’ll share a post with your feedback, resources, and ideas on how to make this a reality.

Over the next month, we’re focusing on a common wish that came up – health!

  • Health
  • A year full of health, togetherness and community
  • Continued success and health in 2022 and beyond!

Many companies and venues are struggling to navigate the safest way to open back up. They are working to balance changing health policies, the needs of artists and staff, expectations from audience members, and the need for ticket revenue.

Artists have shared their challenges with weighing expectations, the need to work, and maintaining their health and/or the health of loved ones.

We would love for you to share your thoughts on this subject. Again, we will put a resource guide together over the next few weeks with feedback from our community.

Click here to share feedback, thoughts, best practices, or resources you’ve found helpful.

If it’s helpful, we’ve also provided a few prompts below. You can answer any of these questions or share something different that is related to keeping indie theater healthy.

For venues and companies:

– How are you keeping your production/venue space safe?
– What resources have been helpful for your planning?
– How are you managing difficult patrons that may not adhere to your health policies?
– What has been successful for you?
– Are there any tips you would share for others companies and venues?

For artists:

– How are you managing your health?
– What do you wish productions and venues would take into account when coming up with a health plan?
– Are there any tips you would share with artists?
– Is there anyone you want to shout out that has been especially helpful? What made it a positive experience?

Please let us know if you have any questions about this! We are grateful for your feedback and thoughts on this subject.

Upcoming Programs

We will be opening up a mental health grant application in the coming weeks. These will be $500 micro grants to be used toward mental health related expenses including covering the cost of therapy sessions, medication, retreats, etc.

Stay tuned for details!
