New York Innovative Theatre Awards

We are honored, grateful, and proud to receive two New York Innovative Theatre Awards this year.

IndieSpace and The Indie Theater Fund were awarded the Ellen Stewart award. This honor is presented to an individual or organization demonstrating a significant contribution to the Off-Off-Broadway community through service, support, and leadership. It is named after Ellen Stewart, founder and artistic director of La Mama, and a champion of OOB/Indie theatre artists for decades.

Randi Berry, the Executive Director of IndieSpace and The Indie Theater Fund, received an Indie Theater Champion award, which honors community members who rose to the occasion during this time of crises from the pandemic and the fight against White Supremacy.

The New York Innovative Theatre Awards has been providing recognition to New York City’s Off-Off-Broadway/Indie theatre artists since 2005. Congratulations to additional award recipients, The Parsnip Ship, Penny Arcade, Rachel April, Chris Weikel, Aimee Todoroff, Ximena Garnica, Episcopal Actors Guild, JACKNY, and LatinX Playwrights Circle.

We are so appreciative to those that nominated us for these awards. It feels incredibly special to be honored by the community we serve.

While we’re not in this work for the awards, our hope is that they will further highlight the challenges that artists currently face and our collective work in search of equitable and financially accessible solutions.

The road to recovery will be arduous. We are just beginning. But we move forward in hope, as a community and as an organization, thanks to your support.

If you would like to support our work, please consider making a donation. Your support brings direct financial relief to the artists that need it!
